Great Lakes - Rye of the Tiger

Yet another old review. Picture lost amongst all of Leah's dog fur. 

Great name. +1 on the marketing points.

I had this on draft a few months ago on the same night I had a Hopslam. I thought it was really great, but I didn't get a lot of rye out of it.

I'm not sure if the recipe's been changed for the bottling or if my taste buds were off that night, because the rye is a lot stronger now (which is good). I'm not really in love with the hopping and bittering here though. The bitterness just lingers too long and I don't like how it plays with the rye. Certainly a good beer, just probably not for me.

Boulevard - Rye on Rye

A lot more mild than I expected. It certainly smells like it has rye in it, although I'm not sure whether that's from the barrel aging or the beer itself.

This may honestly be one of the most boring barrel aged beers I've ever had. Its really sweet, with malt, oak, vanilla, etc. basically dominating. I don't know, it could use the balance of some bitterness or roasted malts or something. Just fine. 

Firestone Walker - Wookey Jack

Yup. Its a black IPA. Its good. Is it that much better than Black Cannon or whatever the 21st Amendment one is called that I'd continually spend $8 a bomber for it? Probably not.

I also don't get much rye, its overshadowed by the roast malts and hops. 

Speakeasy - Scarlett Red Rye

Enjoyable enough, but it wasn't as hoppy as I hoped and the rye was a little muted. Founder's Rye Pale Ale still reins supreme. 

Sierra Nevada - Ruthless Rye IPA

I was hoping for so much more. The rye isn't really prevalent though. Drinks like a cross between their pale ale and Torpedo. Its a nice beer, but not one I'd probably seek out.

Sixpoint - Righteous Ale

This is pretty enjoyable. Subtle lemony taste from the hops. Not overly spicy/strong rye flavor. No where near as bitter as Red's Rye PA from Founders. The rye isn't as prominent either.

Best brew by Sixpoint I've had so far (out of Autumnation and Sweet Action).

Definitely rye based. Fairly bitter. Very disappointed that my nose is stuffed up.

Sam Adams - Revolutionary Rye Ale

We had some friends over last night, so Mandy picked up a Sam Adams mix pack.

I had the Scotch Ale, which I really enjoyed. It was super malty and slightly peaty.

I also had this rye ale. It pales in comparison to Founders Rye PA. There is a hint of rye in the finish. It's a fairly unmemorable beer.

He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA

This is freaking delicious. Not overwhelmingly bitter. I definitely taste the rye malt. Some caramely sweetness also. I'll definitely buy it again.

The Bruery Rugbrod

Can definitely taste the rye in it, but its not as aggressive as the Founders Rye Pale Ale. Starts with a heavy dose of roasted malts, but its not really sweet. Good beer.

Bonus Leah the Dog Thoughts:
I placed this and Heavy Seas Bourbon Barrel Aged Below Decks on the floor. After staring at me for 5 seconds she wandered over to the Bruery beer. Clear winner.

Founders reds rye pale ale

This is pretty awesome. The rye comes through crystal clear. Less alcohol content than a manhattan. One of my favorite beers.
