Trader Joe's - Providential Golden Ale

A spiced belgian pale ale, sort of close to a white ale but not quite there. The alcohol burn is a little high. Its good, not great. Good price, but I'm not sure I'd get it again. I'm just not in love with the style. 

DC Brau - The Citizen

Something about this beer just doesn't do it for me. I think probably the high abv, combined with the sweetness. Its fairly one note. I like my Belgian Pale Ales more refreshing than this. By far the worst non-barrel aged DC Brau offering.

DC Brau - Your Favorite Foreign Movie

Very light. Noble hops come through. Nice enough. Not sure I'd recommend it.

Also. Rant about beer names: Why the fuck would you name your beer this? I guess its not that ridiculous, but having to shout "I want a Your Favorite Foreign Movie" at a bartender is awkward for everyone involved in the transaction.

Devil's Backbone - Azrael

A nice, drinkable pale ale. Nothing more, nothing less.

Blue Mountain - Local Species

Slightly bitter, with a slight alcohol burn at the end. The barrel aging is definitely present. Nice enough beer. I wouldn't buy another bottle but I'd try something else from this brewery.

Green Flash - Rayon Vert

A brett'd belgian pale ale. Its actually pretty tasty. I'd recommend it.

Goose Island - Fleur 2010

Another belgian ale with hibiscus flowers

I ran across this at a store a month or so ago and figured I should pick it up because (1) Goose Island isn't making anymore of it and (2) it was 1.5 years old. Its a little tart, maybe a strawberry flavor? Finishes dry. Very bubbly. Enjoyable enough. Its inline with what I can remember from the last one I had.

Port City - Tidings

This is heavy on the spices. Coriander and grains of paradise are noticeable. (Cardamom and ginger were also used). Its all a little too much. I don't think I'd get it again.

Flying Dog/Brewer's Art - Table for Two

I like the bottle art on this one. You can get a better look here. Described as a belgian table beer.

Light and refreshing. Slight fruity. Slight honey taste maybe. It was really easy to drink. I'd buy it again.

Mikkeller It's Alright!

Avery - Karma

Well this was disappointing. The malts come through in the taste more than the yeast does. In fact, I probably wouldn't have guessed it was supposed to be a belgian pale ale had the bottle not said it. Its inoffensive though. So at least its got that going for it. Definitely not getting this again.

Goose Island Fleur

Slightly funky, only slightly tart. Finish is fairly dry. Interesting but I think I liked their other Belgian offerings better.

Bruery Mischief

I think this is the best beer I've tried from them.

Slight citrus & spicy bitter finish. Only slightly sweet. Definitely recommended.

La Chouffe

Light bodied belgian pale ale, no matter if the bottle says its dark. A little funk in the smell, but not really in the taste.

Slight spice taste, I guess from the coriander. Not bad, not great.

Bonus Mandy Thoughts:
Smells Belgian-y. Tastes Belgian-y. Would be a good beer for people who don't really like Belgian beers though.

Weyerbacher Verboten

Eh. The dude at the beer store was pretty excited about this. Unfortunately, I am not. It tastes very "american", lots of bitter aftertaste, only slight banana taste. As much as I've been liking the "belgian ipas" I'm surprised I don't like this more.

Orval

A little too bubbly for my taste.

Nice subtle taste. Pretty balanced. Mostly a fruity taste from the yeast.

The bottle was aged about a year (thanks harris teeter for the hard work!)

Unibroue - Don De Dieu

I really like this beer. Its pretty fruity and citrusy (pretty sure that's not a word) than most of the beers I usually like. A pretty great summer beer. Just don't drink 4 of them in a row or you'll be plastered (9% abv)

Leffe Blonde

This is one of the first beers that I remember really liking. Like almost everyone else in college, I went on a little trip to Europe at one point. Prior to this, I think I drank a lot of Icehouse and Southpaw. I was in Brussels for two or three days, and we drank a fair amount Leffe Blonde and Brunne, as it was pretty ubiquitous there.

This had an ample amount of carbonation with a slightly nutty flavor. Its a little sweet as well.

Its always a good one to have about once a year. In the end, I much prefer the Leffe Brunne though.
