DC Brau - El Hefe

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Not as much of a "hefeweizen" flavor as I remember. Its more like a happy middle ground between a hefeweizen and an american wheat ale. Its good. I wouldn't buy another bottle, but I'd get it on draft again.

Devil's Backbone - Vision Quest

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Lots of sage. Not in a pleasant way. I had a glass of dry-hopped cask Stillwater Cellar Door (see barrel aged review here) before this that was awesome. This is just overwhelming. Would not recommend.

Smuttynose - Really Old Brown Dog

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This is actually more enjoyable than expected. A touch of smokiness to it? A little thinner than I expected. Still nice and rich & malty. I'd get another bottle.

DC Brau - On the Wings of Armageddon

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Enjoyable, but not worth the price for a bottle. On draft it's a lot more reasonable and I'd get it again without hesitation. Not super bitter. Some biting grapefruit to it. Not super sweet. Just not worth $9 for a bottle.

Edit: There's word on the street that they're going to start canning this! This will be far and away the best beer they have regularly available. Hopefully its at $10 a six pack like their other brews are.

Boulevard - Tank 7

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A fairly hoppy and bitter saison/belgian pale ale. Easy drinking. Enjoyable enough. I'd consider getting it again.

Founders - Backwoods Bastard

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

So I think this is about 6 to 7 months old at this point. I think my complaints are still the same. The bourbon is very strong and the vanilla overwhelms any of the actual beer. I might like this after another 6 months to a year.

Olivers - The Spruce is Loose

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Brewed with blue spruce tips

I wasn't sure what this would taste like. It doesn't taste "piney" which is neither good nor bad. Very malty and sweet. Honestly not that great.

Lost Rhino - Wild Farmwell Wheat Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Sort of a cross between an American wheat ale and a hefeweizen. Super cloudy. Eh. I like El Hefe by DC Brau better for a local hybrid wheat ale.

Maine Beer Company - Zoe

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Definitely hoppy (and bitter). A slight hint of chocolate/roasted malt. Nice enough.

Ommegang - Biere D'Hougoumont

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Not memorable. Really malty. Maybe would improve with age?

Most interesting thing about the beer is that I've been to the battlefield that the label and name reference.

Boulevard - Wheat Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This is actually really great for a wheat ale. Maybe a slight hint of lemon to it. It drinks a lot easier than Oberon for me

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A fairly unique hop flavor in this. I thought it was fruity. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Mandy really didn't like it though.

Boatswain Chocolate Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was drinkable. I purchased another beer at the same time (an IPA? or something else) that was terrible. I could not finish it. It tasted like cheap malt liquor (OE).

Sixpoint - Apollo

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

The first can of this I had didn't have great carbonation and was too sweet without bubbles (seriously). It's best fairly cold and carbonated. There's a slight lemon flavor to it that is out of place for me. Its fine. If you want a summer beer with slightly more flavor than some of the american wheat offerings, this is for you.

DC Brau - Corruption

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A lot more enjoyable out of the can than on draft. The few times I've had it on draft it's been too bitter for me. This was a little more restrained.

Sam Adams - Grumpy Monk

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was okay. Emphasis is on the maltiness. The hops are subtle, its just a little bitter. Some fruitiness from the belgian yeast. Eh.

Founders - KBS 2011

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Well. I just had a 2012 a few days ago and I should have taken some better notes. My initial reaction is that I should have drank this last year. Its a little thinner than I remember the 2012. The coffee is pretty muted at this point, same with the chocolate. Enjoyable enough, but much better not aged. I will proceed to drink my other 2012 in the next few weeks.

Sam Adam's Longshot - Five Crown Imperial Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Another year, another Longshot six pack. This year had a stout, an alt and a dunkel. The dunkel wasn't anything that memorable. Nice enough. Same with the alt.

The stout is pretty good. Nice roasted malt flavor. Not really bitter. Maybe a tad sweet. I'd pass on the six pack overall, but the stout was enjoyable.

Founders - Curmudgeon's Better Half

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Its been a while since I've had Old Curmudgeon, so I don't really have a comparison point. This is tasty though.

Heavy Seas - Plank II

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Very much like a dopplebock. Enjoyable.
