Evolution - Lot #3 IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Mandy picked up a six pack of this because the Two Hearted Ale was overpriced. Its a decent enough IPA. Blah blah blah. Slightly bitter, not overly sweet. Just misses the mark somehow and is not overly memorable.

Victory - Dark Intrigue

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

The nose is full of vanilla and toasted wood.

It tastes pretty good. Still more bourbon presence. There is a weird hopiness to it, almost like the Sixpoint Diesel. Its fine, not the greatest barrel aged stout, but not terrible.

Sierra Nevada - 30th Anniversary Fritz and Ken's Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Previously tried over a year ago. I found another bottle within the past few months and decided to give it another go.

Its still a nice beer. Really smooth drinking now. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt flavors but without any bitterness. Wish I had another bottle.

21st Amendment - Bitter American

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I think I like this less than the DC Brau. Both of them are very quaffable, but I like the public ale better. The hops and bittering on this are just a little off for me.

Dogfish Head - Bitch's Brew

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Yet another brew that I've had but forgot to put up here.

This is a nice enjoyable brew. Really smooth. Really nice roasted malt flavors without a lot of bitterness.

Bell's Batch 10,000

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Hmm. Not sure why I didn't review this last year when I initially got the six pack.

This is fairly unremarkable. Pretty malt driven, with a slight bitter finish. Eh. I'll probably drink the other one I have left soon.

Victory - Storm King Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

The year in the closet was not favorable to this. It's really thin, with a burnt coffee aftertaste. It also smells a little weird.

Goose Island - 2011 Bourbon County Brand Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I've had this a few times before (including a random keg that was at the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ fest two years ago), so I'm surprised I hadn't already had a post about it.

The alcohol is very prevalent. You can definitely tell its a barrel aged beer, with a ton of bourbon/vanilla in the smell and taste. Its pretty smooth, without a lot of coffee or other bitterness to it. Its definitely enjoyable.

Anchor - Our Special Ale 2010

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Still tastes slightly like a molasses cookie, except now with very mild spices. Enjoyable enough, but I don't think the year aging really did much for the beer.

DC Brau - Public Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Ah. Finally got a six pack.

Still tasty. A nicely balanced pale ale. I think I got the six pack for $10. Its good, but I wouldn't pay any more for it. Its a good option at the bar for $5 or $6 though (comparatively).

Allagash - Odyssey

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Oooh. I like it. It finishes fairly dry. Reminds me a little of the 2010 Fluxus. I'd definitely buy a bottle. Very interesting.

DC Brau - Thyme After Thyme

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I actually didn't think the Thyme was that strong in this. It was... interesting though.

Stillwater Aritisan Ales - Debauched

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Brewed with whole juniper bushes, farmhouse ale yeast (brettanomyces) and a touch of smoke. Like a Viking Saison, yeah. - per the brewer's website

I have no idea what a whole juniper bush tastes like, but this beer tastes like a slightly bretted/funky and lemony saison. Pretty good.

Stillwater Artisanal Ales - Debutante

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Pretty sweet and malty with some floral notes. Not bad. I think I like it better than many of the dark saisons by Stillwater.

Best part is the awesome bottle art.

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Grand Cru

DSC03407

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I liked this so much when it came out last year that I went out and stashed another in my closet. It's still fairly tasty, but not as mind blowing as I remember. At this point it tastes like an aged Bigfoot. It finishes really dry. Nice, but I wish I had just drank it last year.

Stillwater Artisanal Ales - Of Love & Regret

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Very fizzy. Slightly sweet, the herbs/botanicals are pretty assertive. Nothing I can really place. It smells slightly of sage, but doesn't really taste like it. It was enjoyable enough, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

Lagunitas - Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was a really delicious IPA. Super citrusy (with a hint of cat pee). Malt definitely takes a back seat. I'd buy it again.

Ass Kisser - Double IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was fine. Pretty bitter. A lot more caramel malt than I was expecting. The hopslam I had yesterday was far superior.

Bruery - Cuir

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Shared over a Christmas dinner. It was enjoyable. I'd consider getting a bottle of the next anniversary release.

Mad Fox - The Funk (Cask)

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was really delicious. A saison that was heavily hopped with citra. Smelled and tasted awesome.
