Avery - Joe's Premium American Pilsner

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I'm not sure why I drank this out of a tulip glass instead of the severely underutilized pilsner glasses I own.

To the beer - Enjoyably crisp. Slightly hoppy and bitter. Nice amount of carbonation. I think I like Prima Pils better, but I'd buy this again.

Pretty Things - Jack D'Or

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Mildly funky. Slightly bitter. Pretty enjoyable straightforward saison.

Bonus Mandy Thoughts:
She actually liked it :-)

Dogfish Head - Raison D'extra

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Strong taste of raisin and dark fruit. The alcohol really comes out as it warms up.

It also made my nose severely stuffed up.

Duck Rabbit - Barleywine

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I think I'm surprised that this is the first beer by Duck Rabbit that I have on here. I'm pretty sure I've had a few of their beers (maybe on draft?).

Yet another balanced barleywine. I think I liked the Old Foghorn better last night.

Bonus Mandy Thoughts:
I'll stick with my wine.

21st Amendment - Hell or High Watermelon

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I was always mildly curious to see what this tasted like, but never willing to spend $10 on a six pack, or $5 on draft to find out. I found a single can on sale for $1.79 and figured it was finally time.

So... it definitely tastes slightly like watermelon. But beer probably shouldn't taste like watermelon. Not enjoyable.

Green Flash - Hop Head Red Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

So I broke my policy of buying beer from Green Flash (again), due to downsizing to four packs and raising prices, and bought a single of this.

Its good. Moderately bitter. Slightly caramely. Pretty tasty.

Anchor - Old Foghorn

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

For some reason I thought this would be hoppier. I actually like it a whole bunch. Its drinkable and balanced without burying it in the back of a closet for two years.

Avery White Rascal

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Mild clove, orange & lemon taste. Nothing to write home about.

Maui Brewing Co. - Big Swell IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I debated between buying this and their coconut porter.

This was a middle of the road IPA for me. Probably pricey for what I got. Probably should have bought the porter.

Heavy Seas - Davy Jones Lager (Imperial Cream Ale)

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I have a hard time understanding how something can be both a lager and an ale at the same time. Something to do with using ale yeast but at low temperatures.

This was really mediocre. Would not recommend or buy again.

Weyerbacher Sixteen

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Hmm. I think this is the first braggot I've had.

I guess its interesting. Its really sweet. A combo of honey & raisin flavors.

Eh. I'm not sure I'm in love with the style.

Oliver's - MP3: The Anniversary

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

On tap at Meridian Pint

Ooo. Lighter than I thought it would be. Slightly lemony. I think I like it?

Bonus Mandy Thoughts
It's okay. A little bitter for my tastes.

Sierra Nevada - Ovila Saison

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

On tap at Meridian Pint

Eh. Its okay. Sweeter and fruited than I like my saisons. Would not buy again.

Bonus Mandy Thoughts

Um I would probably like it even less had i not brushed my teeth before I came and I had I not had a few sips of two hearted ale before it. But it's cold and fizzy so it's got that going for it.

Brugse Zot Unfiltered

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

On tap at Rustico for Julia's birthday.

Super fizzy. Enjoyable enough.

Weihenstephaner Vitus

From July 31, 2011

On the lighter side (color wise) of a weizenbock (vs. an Aventinus). Nice fruity flavor, with banana and some clove. Good brew. Mandy liked it as well.

JW Lees - Harvest Ale 2008

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Last time I had one of these (aged on port casks) I thought it was the effects of the barrel aging that I didn't particularly like.

This made apparent that its actually the base beer that has the lite-tobacco taste. For the price, I'm not sure that I'd go out and buy more of these.

Heavy Seas - 2011 Letter of Marque

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was surprisingly good. Like, "I would buy another bottle" good. A solid dubbel.

Bonus Mandy Thoughts
Just the right amount of belgian-y.

Founders - Blushing Monk

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Founders in a big bottle.

Another raspberry beer. Except this one tastes slightly tart (like an actually raspberry) and pours with a dark pink/red head.

Its pretty good, I just wish it was in a smaller bottle.

Starr Hill Lucy

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Ginger!

Smells like ginger ale. Tastes like diluted ginger ale. Not terrible.

Baying Hound - Taj Mahound

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Another local brew. From a "nano-brewery" in Rockville, MD.

I think I actually like this better than Dogfish Head's India Brown Ale. Pretty sweet with a lot of lingering bitterness. Solid deal for $5.

Lagunitas Lucky 13.alt

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

According to beer advocate, this is an altbier. I have no idea what that means as it doesn't taste anything like the description for an altbier on the site.

Seems like a fairly typical Lagunitas brew. Slightly malty, slightly sweet, a little bitter.

I'd actually be interested to taste their line-up all at once. I'm not sure I'd be able to distinguish any of them from each other.

Terrapin Monk's Revenge

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

More of a hoppy, bitter belgian ale, than a belgian influenced IPA.

Really sweet. Resembles a bitter triple. It's not really that good/balanced. Super sweet, clove, banana, etc. flavors and slightly bitter. I would not buy again.

Smuttynose Summer Weizen Ale

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Eh. This is pretty bland. Which is probably what I needed on a 95 degree day.
