Sam Adams - Alpine Spring

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I have no idea what sort of beer this is supposed to be.

Its almost like they dialed back the lemon on the Sam Adams Summer Ale, but brewed it with lager yeast. I wish this replaced the Sam Summer Ale. Its slightly citrusy and easy drinking. No real bitterness.

Weihenstephaner Korbinian

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A good brew. Some dark fruit flavors (raisins, etc.). Pretty thin though, with the alcohol fairly hidden. I could drink a lot of this.

Green Flash - Palate Wrecker

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Not very sweet for a double ipa. Pretty bitter. I probably had too many beers before this to enjoy it.

Founders - Nemesis 2010

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Bottled 7/10/2010

This is still only mildly interesting for me. Some burnt/roasted malt flavor, a good amount of bitterness still.

Williamsburg Alewerks - Coffeehouse Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Thin for a stout. Mostly coffee flavors coming through. Not too bitter. Pretty easy drinking. Its okay, nothing mind blowing, not bad though either.

Flying Dog - Wildeman Farmhouse IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

So one belgian IPA isn't enough for this brewery. This is more of a super hoppy saison than an american ipa just brewed with belgian yeast. Light and refreshing enough. I still like Raging Bitch a lot better.

Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel - Solstice d'hiver

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Well, this is less enjoyable than the Bigfoot I had ealier today. There's is a sort of burnt bitter flavor that just lingers. The alcohol is pretty prevalent too. The bottle says the brewery ages this 3 to 4 months before releasing it. It could probably benefit from another 12 months or so.

Oskar Blues - Ten Fidy (2010/2011)

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Canned 10/11/10.

This is a lot thinner than I was expecting. Slightly bitter with muted coffee/roasted malt flavors. Its a fine beer at this point, but I don't think aging it really did much for it (compared to say the Founders Imperial Stout).

DuClaw - Devils's Milk

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Continuing my tour of DuClaw's beers...

Pretty malty. Pretty bitter. Its not bad, but nothing outstanding.I have two six packs of Bigfoot waiting to be conquered.

Sam Adams - Whitewater IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Hmm. Smells generally like a white ale. Starts with standard white ale flavors, maybe a little sweeter with the apricot. Its definitely a bitter finish though. I'm not sure if it really works in this context. Its like they just added bittering hops to a white ale. I remember liking the Boulevard White IPA more than this...

Bonus Mandy Thoughts
It smells like garnier shampoo... that's not a good thing because i've always thought garnier shampoo smells like fruity BO. This captures that scent perfectly. And now all tastes are arm pits. But its a lot better than most of the beers you make me try.

Laughing Dog - Sneaky Pete IPA

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I enjoyed the label.

Its slightly reminiscent of Sixpoint's Resin. But this has a weird bitter & alcoholic aftertaste. Something is just off about it for me. Would not recommend or get again.

Climax - ESB

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A pretty enjoyable ESB. A little sweet with nice caramel flavor. A little bitter.

Lagunitas - Imperial Red

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I'm starting to think Lagunitas just puts different color dyes into the same beer and sells it with different labels.

Pretty tropical, a little sweet. It's red, but its not really that malty (compared to Nugget Nectar). Its good, and I'd recommend it. It's just not a typical amber/red ale.

DC Brau - On the Wings of Armageddon

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Could this be less bitter than corruption? Made with only falconers flight hops (which appear in The Public). I like it a lot better than the corruption. Less abrasive.

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Mandy was disappointed with her ginger ale...

Sam Adams - Black & Brew/Old Fezziwig

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

This was pretty thin and tasted like a shot of coffee was just poured in a beer. Pretty watery tasting.

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Better than the coffee stout...

Uinta - Baba Black Lager

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Drinkable enough. Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. A little roasted malt flavor. Not my favorite schwarzbier.

Heavy Seas - Siren Noire

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

A chocolate stout with some amusing bottle art. It tastes mostly of powdered baking chocolate. Eh, I'd pass. The Great Divide Chocolate Yeti and the Southern Tier Chocolate Stout (or Mokah) are much more pleasant.

Dr Fritz Briem - PimoGrodzeskie

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

I was actually expecting this to be more smokey. The smoked malt is definitely there, but more in the aftertaste than completely up in everything. Slightly tart. Pretty decent. Could have been better. Certainly not bad though...

Goose Island - Fleur 2010

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Another belgian ale with hibiscus flowers

I ran across this at a store a month or so ago and figured I should pick it up because (1) Goose Island isn't making anymore of it and (2) it was 1.5 years old. Its a little tart, maybe a strawberry flavor? Finishes dry. Very bubbly. Enjoyable enough. Its inline with what I can remember from the last one I had.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Lost Rhino - Ice Breaker

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Its a double IPA for sure. Its not as interesting as Resin or Hopslam or whatever else I've had recently. Certainly nice enough. Not bad. I wouldn't turn one down, but I wouldn't buy another bottle (draft maybe).

Long Trail - Coffee Stout

From Joe Drinks Dinner and Stuff

Not overwhelming or super aggressive. A big change from the ridiculous IPAs and barrel aged stuff I've been drinking recently. Definitely a lot of coffee taste. Fairly thin, really drinkable.
